Viral Antigens

Recombinant proteins from major human viral pathogens

Our viral antigen range covers recombinant structural and non-structural proteins from viruses including SARS-CoV-2, SARS, MERS, Influenza A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV and Cytomegalovirus, supplied unconjugated across CHO, HEK293, insect cell and P.pastoris expression systems.

How it works

Recombinant Expression of Viral Structural and Non-Structural Proteins

Our viral antigen range consists of recombinant viral proteins, including spike, nucleocapsid, envelope and core proteins, produced across several expression systems. The largest share of the range is produced in CHO cells and HEK293 cells, with further targets produced in insect cells or P.pastoris. Several SARS-CoV-2 targets are available as variant-specific constructs, including B.1.1.7 and B.1.1.529 (Omicron) spike and nucleocapsid proteins, and as untagged, His-tagged, His-AVI-tagged or Fc-tagged formats depending on the target.

Why use our viral antigens?

Coverage across major viral families
The range spans coronaviruses (SARS-CoV-2, SARS, MERS), Influenza A, Hepatitis B and C, HIV and Cytomegalovirus, giving a single source for targets across several pathogen groups.
Variant-specific constructs
Selected SARS-CoV-2 spike and nucleocapsid proteins are available as B.1.1.7 and B.1.1.529 (Omicron) variant constructs, alongside the original 2019-nCoV sequence.
A choice of tag and expression format
Depending on the target, proteins are available untagged or with a His-tag, His-AVI-tag, or Fc-tag (hFc or mFc), produced in CHO cells, HEK293 cells, insect cells or P.pastoris.
Documentation and purity data supplied
Each product page provides a downloadable datasheet and safety data sheet, with purity reported using methods such as SDS-PAGE or SEC-HPLC.
Where they're used

Typical applications

Receptor-binding and ELISA studies
SARS-CoV-2 spike and RBD proteins in the range have been used in binding studies against human ACE2-Fc, with reported linear ranges of 23 to 100 ng/ml depending on the construct.
Variant comparison research
Parallel B.1.1.7 and B.1.1.529 (Omicron) spike and nucleocapsid constructs support side-by-side research into variant-level differences in these viral proteins.
Structural and biochemical characterisation
Purity data reported on product datasheets, including SDS-PAGE and SEC-HPLC analysis, supports use of the proteins in biochemical and structural work.
Assay screening through to scale-up
Pack sizes across the range run from 2 µg up to 1 mg, allowing selection of quantity for pilot screening through to larger-scale assay work.
