How it works

Plate-Based Immunoassay Formats

In a sandwich ELISA or CLIA kit, a capture antibody is pre-coated onto the plate, the sample is added, and a detection antibody binds the captured target. A colourimetric substrate (ELISA) or chemiluminescent substrate (CLIA) then generates a signal that is read against a standard curve to give a quantitative result. Antibody pairs supply the same matched capture and detection antibodies without a pre-coated plate, for labs setting their own plate, diluent and blocking conditions.
