Cell Cycle

The cell cycle is a four stage process, consisting of Gap1, Synthesis, Gap2 and Mitosis. All active eukaryotic cells undergo this cycle as they grow and divide. At the end of this cycle, the cell can either restart the process at Gap1, or exit it via G0. The reason this cycle exists is in order for the cell to accurately duplicate the large amount of DNA located in the chromosomes and to segregate two copies inside two identical daughter cells.
