| Function | Calcium-regulated membrane-binding protein whose affinity for calcium is greatly enhanced by anionic phospholipids. It binds two calcium ions with high affinity. May be involved in heat-stress response. Inhibits PCSK9-enhanced LDLR degradation, probably reduces PCSK9 protein levels via a translational mechanism but also competes with LDLR for binding with PCSK9. Binds to endosomes damaged by phagocytosis of particulate wear debris and participates in endosomal membrane stabilization, thereby limiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation. Required for endothelial cell surface plasmin generation and may support fibrinolytic surveillance and neoangiogenesis. (Microbial infection) Regulates the formation of the NLRC4 inflammasome triggered by Anaplasma phagocytophilum infection. (Microbial infection) Protects against Klebsiella pneumoniae infection. Attenuates bacteria-induced pulmonary inflammation and promotes intro-abdominal pathogen clearance. Promotes anti-inflammatory responses by facilitating TLR4 internalization and translocation into early endosomal membranes.this leads to activation of TRAM-dependent endosomal signaling and release of anti-inflammatory cytokines. (Microbial infection) Promotes macrophage phagocytic efficiency towards Cryptococcus neoformans and ability to control fungal infection inside the cells. (Microbial infection) Contributes to protection against Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection by regulating autophagy via the AKT1-mTOR-ULK1/2 signaling pathway and activation of Rho GTPases via FAM13A-mediated mechanism. |
