How it works

Capture antibody, detection antibody, one target

Each sandwich ELISA kit uses two antibodies directed against different epitopes of the same target. A capture antibody is coated onto the plate to bind the antigen from the sample, and a second, biotinylated detection antibody then binds the captured antigen to complete the sandwich. The antigen sits between both antibodies, which is what gives the format its name and its ability to quantify the concentration of a specific antigen in an unknown sample.
