How it works

Signal interference detection

Each competitive ELISA kit measures antigen concentration via signal interference detection.1 Free antigen from the sample competes with a fixed amount of labelled antigen for a limited number of antibody binding sites, so the measured signal falls as the concentration of antigen in the sample rises. This single-antibody format suits small molecules such as hormones and metabolites that are too small to be bound by two antibodies at once, which is why the range is built around targets in this size class rather than larger proteins.
