Additional Info
| Function | As a result of hemolysis, hemoglobin is found to accumulate in the kidney and is secreted in the urine. Haptoglobin captures, and combines with free plasma hemoglobin to allow hepatic recycling of heme iron and to prevent kidney damage. Haptoglobin also acts as an antioxidant, has antibacterial activity, and plays a role in modulating many aspects of the acute phase response. Hemoglobin/haptoglobin complexes are rapidly cleared by the macrophage CD163 scavenger receptor expressed on the surface of liver Kupfer cells through an endocytic lysosomal degradation pathway. The uncleaved form of allele alpha-2 (2-2), known as zonulin, plays a role in intestinal permeability, allowing intercellular tight junction disassembly, and controlling the equilibrium between tolerance and immunity to non-self antigens. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Human HP (Haptoglobin) Antibody Pair (STJAP00180)
This antibody pair detects human Haptoglobin (HP), corresponding to UniProt entry P00738. Reactivity is confirmed for human samples only.
Both antibodies are polyclonal, raised in goat, and supplied at 0.5 mg/mL in PBS with 0.04% Proclin 300 and 50% glycerol at pH 7.4. The capture antibody is unconjugated, while the detection antibody is biotinylated.
This antibody pair has been validated for use in ELISA. No other assay formats are listed in the product specifications.
Both the capture and detection antibodies were raised against native human Haptoglobin protein. Both were subsequently purified by antigen affinity chromatography.
Both components should be stored at -20°C for long-term storage. Freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided to maintain activity.
