Introduction:

The product of calcium/calmodulin dependent protein kinase II gamma(CAMK2G) is one of the four subunits of an enzyme belonging to the serine/ theronine family. It is also involved in trasport in skeletal muscle and also during exercise. Heterozygous mutations of this gene cause several mental, circulatory system and eye syndroms. We provide a number of trial sized antibodies, which are suitable for CAMK2G research purposes, and to help you make the right decision and find the best suited antibody for you, please find the answers to some of the key topics regarding CAMK2G that we have provided in the links below.

What is CAMK2G?

The product of this gene is one of the four subunits of an enzyme which belongs to the serine/threonine protein kinase family, and to the Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase subfamily. Calcium signaling is crucial for several aspects of plasticity at glutamatergic synapses. The product of the CAMK2G gene is a protein kinase that functions autonomously after Ca(2+)/calmodulin-binding and autophosphorylation, and is involved in sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca(2+) transport in skeletal muscle. In slow-twitch muscles, is involved in regulation of sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) Ca(2+) transport and in fast-twitch muscle participates in the control of Ca(2+) release from the SR through phosphorylation of the ryanodine receptor-coupling factor triadin.

Where is CAMK2G found?

Inside the cell, CAMK2G can be found in the plasma membrane, cytosol and cell junctions, and on tissue level it has cytoplasmic expression at variable levels in selected tissues, most abundant neuronal cells.

What role does CAMK2G play in disease?

Heterozygous mutations of this gene are closely related to autosomal dominant intellectual developmental disorder-59(MRD59), Timothy syndrome and Usher syndrome.
