Detection of V5-tagged fusion proteins carrying the fourteen-residue GKPIPNPLLGLDST epitopeThe V5-Tag is derived from a small epitope (originally called Pk) present on the P and V proteins of the paramyxovirus simian virus 5 (SV5), identified through radioimmune competition assays that mapped the binding site of the monoclonal antibody P-k.1 The tag is generally used at its full 14-residue length (GKPIPNPLLGLDST), though a shorter 9-residue form (IPNPLLGLD) has also been described.
Because the epitope is absent from mammalian proteomes, V5-tagged constructs give low background signal and are used across Western Blot, immunofluorescence and immunoprecipitation to track recombinant proteins without a target-specific antibody.2 Our range covers monoclonal, polyclonal and goat anti-P/V formats.
