mCherry-Tag Antibodies
Detection of mCherry-tagged fusion proteins and related red fluorescent protein variantsmCherry is a monomeric red fluorescent protein engineered from DsRed, the tetrameric red fluorescent protein of Discosoma sea anemones, through directed evolution to break the tetramer interface and improve maturation speed and photostability while keeping the protein functional as a single subunit.1 Like other fluorescent protein tags, its chromophore forms autocatalytically from three internal residues, without needing an external cofactor.
Because mCherry and other DsRed-derived variants (mOrange, mPlum, mStrawberry, tdTomato) share a common fold and sequence origin, antibodies raised against one member of the family often cross-react with several others, which is useful when working across multiple red fluorescent reporters in the same lab.
