| Background | Cytokeratin 20Β is a 46-kDa intermediate filament protein whichΒ reacts primarily with gastric and intestinal epithelium, urothelium, and Merkel cells.1-4Β Anti-Cytokeratin 20 is useful in the identification of specific types of these epithelial cells under normal hyperplastic and neoplastic conditions.3Β Cytokeratin 20 has been detected in adenocarcinomas of the colon, stomachΒ and biliary tract.5-7Β Merkel cell carcinomas have shown reactivity. In contrast, carcinomas of the breast are generally non-reactive. |
