Rabbit Polyclonal Antibodies

High-affinity antiserum from our most widely used polyclonal host

Rabbit polyclonal antibodies are raised by immunising rabbits with a target immunogen, producing an antiserum containing a heterogeneous population of immunoglobulins that recognise multiple epitopes on the same antigen. Rabbit is one of the host species across our polyclonal range, alongside goat, chicken, and guinea pig.

How it works

Raised through rabbit host immunisation

Production begins by injecting a rabbit with the target immunogen, stimulating a primary immune response. Rabbits are a long-standing host choice for polyclonal production because of their relatively large blood volume, which supports higher-yield antiserum collection over the course of an immunisation schedule. The rabbit immune system also generates antibody diversity through gene conversion and somatic hypermutation, mechanisms distinct from those used by rodents, which contribute to the high affinity and specificity associated with rabbit-derived antibodies.
