Hybridoma-derived antibodies from the original monoclonal antibody host

Our mouse monoclonal antibodies are generated by immunising mice and fusing antibody-producing spleen cells with a myeloma line to create a stable hybridoma clone. Mouse is the host species in which monoclonal antibody technology was first developed, and our range covers applications from ELISA and western blot through to IHC, IF, flow cytometry and immunoprecipitation.

How it works

Hybridoma production in the founding host species

Monoclonal antibody technology began in 1975, when Kohler and Milstein produced the first monoclonal antibodies by immortalising spleen cells taken from an immunised mouse. The same principle underpins our mouse monoclonal range today. Mice are immunised with the target antigen, and splenocytes from the immunised animal are fused with a myeloma cell line to form a hybridoma, which is cultured to produce a single, traceable antibody clone. Because mouse immunoglobulin isotypes share similarity with human isotypes, mouse-derived monoclonal antibodies have remained in wide use since that original discovery.

Broad reactivity across research species

A single, traceable epitope
As with all our monoclonal antibodies, each mouse clone descends from one parent hybridoma cell, giving consistent, repeatable binding to the same epitope across experiments.
Coverage beyond standard protein targets
The range extends to clones raised against small molecules and haptens, such as 6-carboxyfluorescein and 6-monoacetylmorphine, alongside standard protein antigens.

Typical applications

Western blotting and ELISA
Many clones in the range are validated for western blot and ELISA, supporting detection and quantification of target proteins in lysates and plate-based assays.
IHC and immunofluorescence
Selected clones are validated for IHC and IF/ICC, localising target proteins within tissue sections and fixed cells.
Flow cytometry and immunoprecipitation
Certain clones are validated for flow cytometry (FC/FACS) and immunoprecipitation (IP), supporting cell population analysis and target pull-down from lysates.
Lateral flow assay development
Clones raised against small-molecule targets are used in lateral flow (LF/FIA) formats, such as our anti-6-MAM clones for opiate-metabolite detection.
