Isoclonic Controls

These types of controls are an alternative to isotype control antibodies. Cells are stained with excess labelled antibodies in the presence of an identical unlabelled antibody. The excess unlabelled antibody then takes up all of the available binding sites, denying antibody binding from the labelled antibody.

This ensures that if a signal is detected, it must have come as a result of non-specific binding. In addition to these controls, there are also single staining, biological, intracellular and Fc blocking controls, which have defined uses for a variety of experimental purposes.
