Rabbit Monoclonal
Rabbit Monoclonal Antibodies
Hybridoma-derived antibodies from a larger starting B cell poolOur rabbit monoclonal antibodies are generated by immunising rabbits and fusing antibody-producing B cells with a myeloma line to create a stable hybridoma clone. A rabbit spleen contains many more B cells than a mouse spleen, so each fusion starts from a larger pool of candidate antibodies, giving a greater chance of finding the right clone for a given target.
Hybridoma production from a larger B cell pool
Rabbits are immunised with the target antigen, and B cells from the immunised animal are fused with a myeloma cell line to form a hybridoma, which is cultured to produce a single, traceable antibody clone. The main advantage of using a rabbit over a mouse for this process is the starting material: a rabbit spleen holds far more B cells than a mouse spleen. A larger starting pool means more candidate antibodies to screen, which raises the odds of identifying a clone with the binding properties needed for a given target.
Why use rabbit monoclonal antibodies?
| ✓ |
A wider pool of candidate clones Because a rabbit spleen yields more B cells than a mouse spleen, each fusion generates more candidate antibodies to screen against your target. |
| ✓ |
Broad reactivity, including pathogen targets Clones in the range are validated against human, mouse and rat targets, alongside pathogen-specific clones such as our SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid and spike antibodies. |
| ✓ |
A single, traceable epitope As with all our monoclonal antibodies, each rabbit clone descends from one parent hybridoma cell, giving consistent, repeatable binding to the same epitope across experiments. |
| ✓ |
A wide range of conjugates for panel design Our rabbit clones are available across ABflo® fluorescent conjugates spanning the visible to near-infrared spectrum, giving flexibility when building multicolour panels. |
Typical applications
| ✓ |
Western blotting and ELISA Many clones in the range are validated for western blot and ELISA, supporting detection and quantification of target proteins in lysates and plate-based assays. |
| ✓ |
IHC, immunofluorescence and ICC Selected clones are validated for IHC, IF and ICC, localising target proteins within tissue sections and fixed cells. |
| ✓ |
Flow cytometry and immunoprecipitation Certain clones are validated for flow cytometry (FC) and immunoprecipitation (IP), supporting cell population analysis and target pull-down from lysates. |
| ✓ |
Chromatin immunoprecipitation Selected clones are validated for ChIP, supporting studies of protein-DNA interactions in chromatin research. |
