AMACR (Alpha-Methylacyl-CoA Racemase) encodes an enzyme involved in the metabolism of branched-chain fatty acids and bile acid intermediates. It is essential for peroxisomal and mitochondrial beta-oxidation. AMACR is highly expressed in prostate cancer and is used as a diagnostic biomarker.
