Autophagy, derived from Greek is 'eating of self' is the organized process of the cell, that removes unnecessary and damaged components, leading to safe and well-organised downgrading and recycling of cell components. This process also aids in regenerating new, healthy cells to take the place of the dysfunctional ones.
