Isotype Controls

Isotype control antibodies are typically used alongside a primary antibody, and hold the critical function of ensuring the specificity and accuracy of antibody-based experiments.


The isotype control usually matches the host species, isotype and conjugation of the primary antibody, and will measure the level of non-specific background signal which may come about from use of the primary antibody, and thereby serving as a type of negative control.


Including isotype control antibodies in your experiments will help determine if any observed signal is due to specific binding of the primary antibody or non-specific binding of the antibody, and is particularly important when studying weak or low abundance targets, where non-specific binding can significantly impact the results of the experiment.
