Primarily induces neutrophil activation and recruitment at infection and inflammatory sites. Stimulates the production of antimicrobial beta-defensins DEFB1, DEFB103A, and DEFB104A by mucosal epithelial cells, limiting the entry of microbes through the epithelial barriers.
