| Background | Toxoplasma gondii is a spindle-to-oval-shaped protozoan which presents as an infection in humans of various sorts. The cyst (30 um) and trophozoite (7 um) stages can be identified in humans is such cases. This intracellular parasite is transmitted via raw/undercooked meat, contaminated soil, or by direct contact with an infected host. Infection in humans is usually associated with a variable degree of immunosuppression such as in pregnancy or immunosuppression due to various drugs. |
