| Background | Blood group Lewis carbohydrate determinants are oligosaccharides on glycolipids and glycoproteins. In healthy individuals the LewisY antigen is a type 2 antigen usually only expressed in low levels of a few cell types such as some epithelial cells. Reportedly these antigens are aberrantly expressed in high levels in many carcinomas. Anti-BG8, LewisY reactivity in immunohistochemistry is seen in carcinomas of the breast, lung, and colon. |
