| Background | Choriogonadotropin (hCG) is a protein of the molecular weight about 40 kDa. It belongs to the glycoprotein hormone family together with lutropin (LH) , follitropin (FSH) and thyrotropin (TSH). Choriogonadotropin is synthesised by trophoblastic cells of the placenta during pregnancy and stimulates the growth of corpus luteum. The other hormones are produced by anterior pituitary gland. All these hormones are structurally related, being composed of two noncovalently associated subunits alpha and beta. |
