Short Description: This HMGCS Sandwich ELISA Kit is an in-vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the measurement of samples in human cell culture supernatant, serum and plasma (EDTA, citrate, heparin).
Storage Instruction: Store the unopened kit in the fridge at 2-8°C for up to 6 months. Once opened store individual kit contents according to components table provided with the kit.
Assay Time: 4.5 hrs
Gene Symbol: HMGCS2
Gene ID: 3158
Uniprot ID: HMCS2_HUMAN
Sample Type: tissue homogenates or other biological fluids.
Tissue Specificity Expression in liver is 200-fold higher than in any other tissue. Low expression in colon, kidney, testis, and pancreas. Very low expression in heart and skeletal muscle. Not detected in brain. Isoform 3: Highest expression detected in heart and skeletal muscle.
Post Translational Modifications Succinylated. Desuccinylated by SIRT5. Succinylation, at least at Lys-83 and Lys-310, inhibits the enzymatic activity.
Function Catalyzes the first irreversible step in ketogenesis, condensing acetyl-CoA to acetoacetyl-CoA to form HMG-CoA, which is converted by HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR) into mevalonate.
