Trial size BECN1 antibodies available in the Antibody Validation Project
Introduction:
BECN1 gene carries the needed information for synthesising a protein regulating autophagy and mediating vesicle-trafficking processes. Although it plays an important role in our organisms, several serious conditions have been related with a mutation or overexpression of this protein. We provide a number of trial sized antibodies, which are suitable for BECN1 research purposes, and to help you make the right decision and find the best suited antibody for you, please find the answers to some of the key topics regarding BECN1 that we have provided in the links below.

What is BECN1?
The BECN1 gene encodes a protein regulating autophagy, a catabolic process of degradation induced by starvation and also is a component of the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K) complex which mediates vesicle-trafficking processes. This protein is thought to play a role in multiple cellular processes, including tumorigenesis, neurodegeneration and apoptosis.
Where is BECN1 found?
On intracellular level, this protein is found mainly in the endoplasmic reticulum, the endosome and cytosol. Smaller amounts are present in all other cell structures. It is expressed in all tissues, and has low human brain regional specificity.
What role does BECN1 play in disease?
Mutations of BECN1 lead to several cancers, cystinosis and Machado-Joseph disease: an inherited form of ataxia, worsened by the overexpression of the mutated protein.
