Target Information

AIRE (Autoimmune Regulator) is a transcription factor crucial for immune tolerance. It promotes the expression of tissue-specific antigens in the thymus, allowing the elimination of self-reactive T cells. Mutations in AIRE cause autoimmune polyendocrinopathy-candidiasis-ectodermal dystrophy (APECED), a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by endocrine dysfunction and chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis.
