Target Information

The APEX1 (Apurinic/Apyrimidinic Endodeoxyribonuclease 1) gene encodes a critical DNA repair enzyme known as AP endonuclease 1 (APE1). This enzyme plays a vital role in the base excision repair (BER) pathway, which maintains genome stability by repairing DNA damage caused by oxidation, alkylation, or hydrolytic cleavage. APE1 specifically recognizes and cleaves apurinic/apyrimidinic (AP) sites—locations in DNA where a base is missing—allowing subsequent repair enzymes to restore the correct nucleotide sequence.
