IHC Guaranteed Antibodies
Our commitment to tackling the reproducibility crisis
At St John’s Laboratory we understand the complexities and pressures of securing research funding and delivering reliable results. When it comes to using antibodies in research procedures, cost effectiveness and efficiency are essential to answering critical scientific questions with confidence.
As the first antibody supplier to host the 1st International Antibody Validation Forum in 2014, St John’s Laboratory has long been committed to helping researchers get it right the first time — championing reproducibility across life science disciplines.
Reliable RUO antibodies for IHC applications
A key part of our antibody validation strategy involves antibody validation in Immunohistochemistry (IHC). IHC is an essential application in research to visualise and localise specific proteins within tissue samples to ensure high specificity and sensitivity of an antibody.
St John's Laboratory offers IHC-Guaranteed antibodies as part of antibody validation initiatives. This premium selection of Research Use Only (RUO) antibodies has undergone rigorous validation in immunohistochemistry applications, ensuring optimal performance. Each antibody in this collection demonstrates high specificity and sensitivity for the target protein, providing consistent and reliable results for your IHC studies.
IHC validated antibodies for a range of research applications
Whether you are characterising the cellular composition, biomarker expression, and spatial organisation of the tumour microenvironment, mapping neurodegeneration, or detecting fluorescent tags in tissue, selecting the right IHC antibodies is essential for reliable immunohistochemistry.
Explore our range of monoclonal or polyclonal IHC antibodies to find the ideal antibody for your IHC experiments and advance your research.
IHC guaranteed antibodies for different tissue preparations
St John’s Laboratory offers a broad range of immunohistochemistry antibodies validated for different tissue preparations, including frozen (IHC-F) and paraffin-embedded (IHC-P) tissue.
Frozen vs paraffin: choosing the right IHC antibody
Your tissue preparation method affects antibody compatibility. We stock IHC antibodies validated for both FFPE and frozen sections, ensuring reproducible results.
Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) sections
- Require antigen retrieval (heat or enzymatic)
- Best for archived samples and biopsies
- Select immunohistochemistry antibodies tested for IHC-P
Frozen sections (IHC-F)
- Preserve protein conformation
- Ideal for enzymes, membrane proteins, and fragile epitopes
- Faster workflows as antigen retrieval steps are avoided
IHC guaranteed antibodies from St John's Laboratory support direct and indirect IHC staining methods
IHC antibodies detect specific proteins in tissue sections using direct or indirect labelling strategies:
- Primary antibodies (unconjugated or conjugated) bind directly to the target.
- Secondary antibodies bind to the primary and amplify the detection signal.
Direct staining: When multiplexing or working with low-background tissues, use conjugated primary antibodies (Alexa Fluor 488, Alexa Fluor 546, Alexa Fluor 647 , FITC, PE (Phycoerythrin), APC. Tri-color formats are also available for enabling multi-colour fluorescent imaging).
Indirect staining: Utilise unconjugated primary antibodies
with a matched immunohistochemistry secondary antibody to enhance sensitivity and signal amplification.
For direct chromogenic IHC, primary antibodies conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) can be used together with common substrates, including 3,3'-diaminobenzidine (DAB) and Aminoethyl carbazole (AEC) to produce a visible colored precipitate for the localisation of target proteins.
Key immunohistochemistry targets
We provide rigorously validated clones designed for high sensitivity and high specificity in immunohistochemistry (IHC) across various species.
- CD3 Antibody immunohistochemistry: Choose a well-characterised CD3 Antibody IHC as a T-cell marker for tumour immunology and lymphoid tissue profiling.
- CD19 Antibody immunohistochemistry: Incorporate into your workflows our CD19 Antibody IHC as a B-cell marker, widely used in hematology and lymphoma research.
- CD14 Antibody immunohistochemistry: Crucial for studying inflammation, sepsis, and innate immunity, CD14 Antibody IHC identifies monocytes and macrophage lineage cells.
- CD68 Antibody immunohistochemistry: Employed in neurodegeneration and cancer studies, CD68 Antibody IHC is a macrophage/microglial marker.

Additional antibody validation strategies employed by St John's Laboratory
We also meticulously validate our antibodies by including KO-validated antibodies in our range. Our knockout validated antibodies are extensively tested to ensure high specificity for their intended target protein, using gene knockout techniques. Wildtype samples are compared to those genetically modified via CRISPR Cas9 knockout system to lack the protein of interest.
Browse our range of KO validated antibodies optimised for western blot, immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence (IF), immunocytochemistry (ICC) and immunohistochemistry (IHC).
